Our Mission and Programs

Safe Harbor Child Access Centers is a 501(c)3, all volunteer, New Jersey based not-for-profit organization, and is a registered New Jersey charity with the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs, having met all the mandated registration obligations relevant to maintaining charitable status within this state.

Our mission is to provide services to separating, divorcing, and divorced families to assure that children have continuing contact with both parents and other families members.  Our centers cut down on the opportunity for family violence, allow for parenting time/visitation in potentially high-risk situations, and allow for reintroduction of a parent or other family member.  We aim to provide these services in a safe, courteous and child-friendly environment.  We serve as a safe harbor for families in crisis.

In partnership with faith-based and other services organizations, we offer two primary programs:

Monitored Exchange Services: Monitors are present while the parents meet on Friday evenings to exchange the children for their weekend parenting time, and for their return on Sunday evenings.

Supervised Child Access Services: One parent drops off the children, and leaves the premises after the other parent arrives, returning after the other parent has had supervised parenting time.  Trained monitors remain with the parent and the children through out the session.

These programs are open to separated and divorcing families of all races, religions and origins, but interested parties must make an appointment to use the centers.  Referrals can be made through the courts, attorneys, counselors, mediators, parenting time coordinators, social workers and families themselves.  After a one-time registration fee payable on the first visit to cover administrative costs, all transfer and access services are provided at no charge.

Additional Services

All families in our programs have access to parenting time/visitation mediation services.  Where appropriate, we work with families to transition them from Supervised Access to Transfer Services, and from Transfer Services to unsupervised access.

We also provide referrals to attorneys, mediators, custody evaluators, therapists, parenting coordinators and other family law specialists.   If you are a service provider, please contact us to get on our referral lists.

Feedback On Our Programs

I wish to thank your volunteers for your prompt and courteous cooperation with my office, and more importantly for the warm and dignified treatment of my client and her boys.  Your calming and hospitable efforts were a real oasis at an extremely difficult time in her life.”
